Lanny's 6th Birthday at the Great Wolf Lodge

Yesterday was a crazy busy day.  I had to get up bright and early to do my pro bono work, and Eddie had to get the kids up and ready.  Evan was supposed to go to his first soccer practice of the season and then they were going to cousin Lanny's birthday party.  Unfortunately, Eddie forgot he left his work truck keys in my purse while on vacation, and he needed to move his truck which was parked right in front of the garage door where our car is parked.  He thought he had a spare key in the truck and called his buddies at the fire department to unlock the truck for him.  They did but no keys!  He then called his friend whose son is also on the same soccer team because they weren't going to make it to practice.  His friend got Evan's uniform for him.  Then, the deliverers of our new bed arrived.  After they left, Eddie decided after moving some stuff around in the garage that he could get the car out.  Our garage is not that big so that was definitely a real feat.  He and the boys were able to get to the party on time.  Lanny wanted a pirate themed party, and his parents decided to have the party at the Great Wolf Lodge.  I have heard some great reviews about this place but haven't had a chance to go since they opened the one close to us.  It is actually quite expensive to spend the night, but there is so much for families to do, and it is a big vacation destination apparently.  The place was packed on Saturday.  I met them for the party after I finished up my work.  The party package included a party room with decorations and pizza.  Then, the kids got all day passes to the water park.  All of the kids had a blast, but I think Brody had the most fun of all.  That kid just LOVES water!

Looks like someone else enjoyed a cupcake.

Sweet Cate had a great time.  She loves the water too!

That's the happiest face.

So excited.

There goes Daddy.

Silly daddy.

Photobucket
Two thumbs up.

Here he comes!

Photobucket
You would think after five days at the beach going down slides at the water park, he would have had enough.  Never!

She loves it almost as much as Brody.

A reasonably well-behaved picture of the kids.  Emma and the other girls had already left though.

Eddie told them after they sat still for a good picture that they could do something crazy.  This is what we got!

    1. I am sure they'll have a blast! My brother and I were the only disappointed participants on this expedition as we waited in line to ride the Tornado (the biggest water slide) and got all the way to the top and were next in line to ride when they shut it down because of lightning (part of it goes outside). Bummer!

  2. We have a Great Wolf Lodge sort of near us too -- about two hours away. I think we will wait until our kids are a little older to go though since neither of them is thrilled with water yet. It looks like you had a ton of fun though!

    1. I would definitely wait until they are old enough to enjoy the water park, Natasha! I have heard really great things to say about spending the night too, but it does seem a little expensive which is why we haven't done it. It is only about 30 to 45 minutes from us so it doesn't really feel like a "vacation destination" for us. :-)

  3. What an awesome birthday party. I had never heard of a Great Wolf Lodge before about 6 months ago, but since then I have read about 3 different blogs about that place. When you say it is expensive to stay the night, what is expensive? Just thinking ahead for the future.

    1. Now, as far as birthday parties go, it wasn't too bad. I have always tried to find "affordable" options for Evan's parties since he has been older and wanted "destination" parties (not at home). We did a party at Carolina Panthers stadium when he was 4 and a cowboy themed bowling party when he was 5. His birthday always tends to be rainy and cool too so we have to consider places that can accommodate indoor fun. This place would be great for that. It is $450 for up to 10 guests with pizza and decorations included. I usually end up spending at least that much no matter what I do. I admire others who claim they can do it for less, but if you are serving food, drinks, and cake, I know you know how expensive that gets. :-)
