Astronaut Evan's New Space

So last weekend, we undertook a large family project.  At 3 years old, Evan decided he was ready for a BIG boy bed.  His convertible crib would convert to a full size headboard and footboard so we went shopping for his new mattress.  He loved trying out the mattresses by jumping on them!  :o)  We had been talking about how we wanted to decorate his new room and finally decided on outerspace.  Evan has developed a new and decided interest in space and can even recognize most of the planets.  Jupiter is the biggest and has the big storm on it; Saturn has the rings; "Earf" is blue and is where he lives; etc.  We had been spending a lot of time showing him pictures from outerspace on the internet as he asked to see them all the time so we decided to find some pictures he liked from NASA and get them blown up and framed for his room.  I knew I wanted to change his room to blue and wanted to keep his red accent pieces from his nursery so we set to work locating some cool bedding to go with the theme and colors.  We quickly found a very cute but grown up set on Target.com (yes, you probably already know we love Target) that was perfect.  Evan loved the spaceships on his bedding.  To save money, I located some unfinished picture frames from our local Dollar Store and bought 10 of them to paint white.  I had calculated that at about $10 a pop for white frames, I would have blown $100 on just picture frames for his room...not cool!  I feel very proud of Evan's new space, and he seems to love it too!  Immediately after we made his bed, he had three of his little stuffed toys riding the spaceships on his bed.  :o)

Oh and we even got brave and attempted a striped wall treatment!  Yeah, that was fun!

Mr. Carpenter

This weekend we tackled a pretty big project...re-decorating Evan's room and creating a really cool big boy space for him!  While visiting our local Lowe's Home Improvement Center on Saturday morning to gather paint and supplies, we discovered that we were just in time to participate in the kids' workshop.  They were building bug boxes, and it was free.  The kids got free Lowe's work aprons to wear and keep, and they got to keep the projects they made.  Evan really enjoyed working with his Daddy and using real tools to make his bug box...which he decided looked more like an airplane so he flew it all over the store.  He swung his little hammer like a pro.  The pictures below aren't as good as I would like since they were taken with our cell phone camera, but we are just glad we got them since this event wasn't in our plans.

Go Panthers!

Evan was so excited to attend Carolina Panthers Fan Fest this year.  I believe I have mentioned a few times that this kid loves football.  He was so excited and talked about the event all week!  We talked his school buddy, Bryant, into going as well so these boys had a blast together.  Bryant is a few months older than Evan and usually ends up leading Evan into quite a bit of mischief.  The day was very hot, but the kids didn't seem to mind too bad.  Of course, Carolina Panthers colors are black and blue so their little jerseys were not the coolest things to wear on a hot day, but you couldn't tell them!  We met at our light rail station, our city's new public transportation system.  The boys loved riding the "train."  It is really like an above ground subway.

Check out the cool pictures from this fabulous event in beautiful downtown Charlotte:

Priceless. I am so glad Bryant's Aunt caught this on camera because I didn't have a chance to whip mine out!

Blog Hop '10 - Meeting some fellow bloggers!

Hello, fellow blog hoppers!  Okay, I'll give this a shot.  My blog started out as a creative way for me to organize and memorialize our family memories.  The first few months of entries to this blog catalogue our life since we were married 7 years ago.  I am in the process of printing those entries in a blog book which is turning out quite well.  We are a family of 3 right now (well, 4 if you count our little dog).  My husband and I both vowed before we had kids that we would give our children the happiest childhood imaginable so we are striving every day to fulfill that goal.  Other goals can be seen in the "Bucket List" on this page.  A few details about my (or our) life:

* We love the Lord and strive to put him first in all we do.
* We are all southern born and bred.
* We live in and love North Carolina.  Yes, I know South Carolina is cool too, but we think North Carolina is the best!
* We have been married for seven glorious years and have enjoyed every minute.
* Our 3 year old son loves all things little boy, including football, baseball, soccer, golf, cars, superheroes, and outer space.
* Oh and I am a law student too...no, don't ask me how I do it all!  I would love to connect with anyone suffering through the same torture.  :-)

I hope to meet some other nice bloggers through this cool event, and I look forward to hearing from anyone with similar interests or backgrounds.    Thanks for stopping by!

Evan's Wish List

So Evan has started making his Christmas list.  And what does he want?

This:

It's called a pillow pet.  Yes, I am serious.  The only item he has ever seen on a TV commercial that he has actually said he wanted.  The first time he saw the commercial he was like, "Hey, that's what I need...a pillow pet!"  Ha!  And now he has to have the bumblebee pillow pet.  Why?  Perhaps because his favorite character from Transformers is Bumblebee.  Yes, I think so!

Oregon Trail lives on!

I totally want to see this movie. I am feeling nostalgic now. I remember playing this game in elementary school on our old DOS machines. Haha! Enjoy!
