Our elf, Brewster, joined our family last Christmas, and he was a big hit with Evan. He got into some mischief last year, but this year he has definitely outdone himself. Daddy is usually in charge of Brewster's behavior, but I did whisper a few ideas to him. This little tradition is really just for fun in our house. We don't really teach our kids that they get gifts for Christmas only when they've been good because well, let's face it, if it was true that Santa didn't bring naughty kids gifts (or brought them only coal), very few if any kids would be receiving any gifts. We teach forgiveness around here. Forgiveness from Jesus and from Santa. Brewster does watch though, and he likes to hear some sincere apologies when someone has done something wrong. In the meantime, he likes to have a little fun at night when the kids are in bed. What a stinker!

So you can imagine Evan has really enjoyed having Brewster around this year. I am pretty sure he is going to get a little sad on Christmas morning when Brewster has to leave. Last year, Santa left Evan and Brody a nice note to let them know Brewster would be with him and would come back next year. I hope that will be enough to appease them this year.
I love the way you teach forgiveness instead of naughtiness. That is awesome! I've always hated the whole naughty thing. I'm not into guilt at all.

ReplyDeleteI love it! We got our elf this year and we didn't really even introduce it as something that was a way for us to let Santa know if Spencer had been naughty. I don't like the concept of naughty. The elf is mostly just for fun. I think I enjoy Winston just as much as Spencer does.

ReplyDeleteI also like the idea of Brewster being about forgiveness because who of us would end up with more than coal??? It looks like Brewster's been having some fun this year though :)
