Halloween Block Party

We enjoyed an evening outdoors with our neighbors grilling out and passing out candy to trick-or-treaters.  We live on a street that is very boy dominate so no little girls to play with.  Our old neighbors had a little girl a little younger than Evan, but they moved this summer.  This was also a sad goodbye event for our across the street neighbors as they were all packed and leaving the next morning for Colorado.  We wish you well, Mike, Gina, and Levi!  I choked back tears as I hugged little Levi one last time.  He is just the sweetest little boy!  Brody enjoyed his first trick-or-treat although he didn't really get the putting the candy into his bucket thing.  He either wanted to keep holding it or would try to give it back.  Nevertheless, he ended up with a pretty full bucket which his big brother insists he will eat.  I guess that is the reward for being the big brother.  So far we have limited the candy intake, and they haven't even put a dent in the stash.  Brody did enjoy his first Reese's peanut butter cup (you know we must be fans of this company), and he also enjoyed a little sucker.  Thankfully, this has had no negative effects on his ravenous appetite.

Yes, it was a ninja and pirate year.  Evan chose to be a red ninja (a fairly new fascination of his), and Brody is wearing Evan's old costume.

Evan made a pretty convincing ninja.

My little pirate.  He will say "Arrrr!"

Sweet pirate.

So excited to get some candy!

He looks so grown up.  We joked that he liked his costume very well since his sleeves were "silky."  We had carved our pumpkins on Sunday so by Wednesday, the Grim Reaper was looking a little shriveled.

Photobucket
Have you ever seen a happier pirate?  He must have found the treasure!

Photobucket
This costume included booties so we just stretch them over shoes.  After two kids have worn them, they have just about had it.

Photobucket
Love him!

Must have a comparison photo!

Levi was a very cute Captain America!

Brody will miss his friend.  Levi loves some Baby Brody.

Hard to get them all to look at the camera because it was pitch black, and they really couldn't even see me until the very bright flash would just about blind them.

Evan calls this the "haunted house" because they really go all out every year.  It was so dark on their front porch with only a black light and a smoke machine.   Yes, you can just see my hula girl skirt here.  This was a last minute costume choice picked from Evan's array of costume paraphernalia.  I think the hula skirt came from his cousin Emma's luau birthday party.  I had lost my paper flower for my hair and my lei.

Photobucket
They even had some zombies in cages.  They looked a whole lot scarier without the too bright camera flash.

Photobucket
Brody really enjoyed his trick or treating experience.

Photobucket
Ooops, Mommy was losing her hula skirt here.

Photobucket
He insisted on walking although we had his stroller.  He couldn't handle his big heavy bucket though.

Photobucket
He's getting so big.  *sniff*

Photobucket
Oooo, they hit the motherload...a whole cauldron of candy!

Photobucket
Brody wasn't scared of skeletons rising from the grave.

Photobucket
He made friends with the little ghosts.

And because I am loving Picmonkey right now, what do you think of this family of vampires?

Photobucket
Cute, right?
Or better yet, a family of zombies?

Photobucket
Awww, yes, I think we need to try out for "The Walking Dead."

Evan's Halloween Party

We did the parent tag team on Halloween so Daddy went to Evan's class party.  Evan's class played Halloween candy corn bingo and enjoyed a sweet treat buffet.

Brody's 1st Halloween Party

Since Brody had school on Wednesday, his class received some special treats and could wear their costumes as long as they weren't too cumbersome making diaper changing a bigger challenge.  Mommy took Brody to school wearing his adorable pirate costume that was also his brother's costume at the same age.  I had already arranged to come back to help give his class their Halloween treats and take pictures.  When I arrived at 11:30, the class was still outside enjoying a nice Fall day on the playground.  Brody was pushing a little truck around so I snuck up to take a picture before he could see me.  I knew that once he saw me, it might start a little tantrum.  His teacher put him into the swing, and I snuck up behind and started pushing him and talking to him.  He didn't turn around immediately but had a big smile on his face.  He is used to only hearing my voice when he listens to me on the phone so I guess he still wasn't aware I was there.  He finally turned around and saw me.  When it was time for the class to line up and go back inside for lunch, the trouble began.  He was not happy that Mommy wasn't going to pick him up and carry him, and I guess he thought Mommy might leave without him again.  Once inside, he wouldn't let Mommy sit beside him at the table so she had to sneak out of the room.  I guess he is still at that stage where once I am out of his sight, he forgets to be worried.  He calmed down so I snuck my head in to watch him eat and had to stay hidden so that he would eat his lunch.  I snuck back into the room, and he was finally okay with me being there while he ate his Halloween treats and listened to his teacher read a "spooky" story.  I was also there to photograph the other kids from his class too so I'm glad he finally let me in.

Just a little note...

Hi, folks!  I just wanted to post a little note today to let everyone know I am still here.  I haven't had a free minute to post about halloween or other important events that occurred this week like Evan's first awards program this week or Brody eating his first Reese's peanut butter cup.  Ha!  Tonight after a quick dinner with my boys, I have to head to Wake Forest University (about 2 hours away) so that I can get up bright and early and take an important test that is just one step on the way to becoming a lawyer.  It is the MPRE (Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam).  How professionally responsible am I?  I guess we'll find out.  Seriously, there are a lot of rules governing lawyers' conduct although my husband thinks they can get away with more than the average joe too.  Ha!  So anyway, here's a picture that I posted to Facebook that is a glimpse of our fun halloween.  I'll be back with more later.  I appreciate your kind thoughts and prayers tomorrow!
