Preparing for Evan!

Preparing our lives and our home for a new baby was a fun learning experience. Of course, we had to read "What to Expect When You're Expecting" and "What to Expect The First Year" as all new parents should try to do. We were very excited and a little nervous! We lived in a very rural area of North Carolina so we decided to watch "Laugh and Learn About Childbirth" on DVD which is a real childbirth class on video that teaches you the breathing and pushing techniques and what to expect when delivery time comes. We definitely think it helped us be more prepared, and it was much cheaper than the classes. Plus, the "teacher" was funny.

Below are some pictures of Sherry's growing belly:

All of our family and friends were too kind to us when we were expecting. We had several baby showers from Eddie's family, Sherry's family, our church Sunday School class, and Sherry's co-workers. We received many nice things to help us care for our little one.

Here are some pictures from our wonderful showers:

Eddie's family threw us the first shower, and we got lots of cute little boy clothes and other useful accessories. We were very glad Evan did not surprise us and turn out to be a girl!

The adorable "booty" cake!

Very useful gifts!

Sherry's family and her Dad's church threw a great shower too. Aunt Jessica made a fabulous diaper cake.

This cake was divine and was actually made by the same person who made our wedding cake. Thanks, Doug!

Yes, Sherry was sitting on the floor opening presents, but she didn't mind. Of course, Eddie wasn't helping her at all!

Sherry does have one good helper.  Thanks, cousin Emma!

Sherry's Work Shower

After all the showers were over, it was time to get the nursery in order. Sherry prepared well and had registries at Babies R Us, Target, and Wal-mart so she knew where to go to get the best deals and the items she wanted and needed. Because of her preparations, it was actually very easy to do the big shopping trip. We decided to do a safari theme with soothing neutral tones of tan and light sage green with some red accents. Eddie painted the walls a soothing light sage green color. Sherry prepared the letters that would spell Evan's name and make his room truly his own.  Eddie worked hard one weekend to put together the crib, dresser/changing table, armoire, and bookcase.

Here is the finished result of all our hard work:
