Finding out we were pregnant!

Eddie and I started talking about having a baby Christmas of 2005. We decided that we would start "trying", but we wouldn't be disappointed if it took a while. The next few months, we were not worried at all and just had faith that it would happen. In June 2006, we planned a weekend get-away for our 3 year anniversary. We went to Nags Head and spent a relaxing weekend lounging by the pool and swimming in the ocean. We also went to eat at one of the best restaurants in the world, The Black Pelican. The meal was superb, the dessert delicious, and the wine was divine. Over the next few weeks, we suspected we might be pregnant and calculated that we had conceived on this wonderful anniversary get-away. On July 29, 2006, we had our first positive pregnancy test. Needless to say, we were very excited! Eddie was actually leaving me that day to go out west to fight a wildfire and to make us some extra money, which would definitely come in handy to buy all those baby necessities. We decided to wait a while before telling our families to insure that everything was going well. Also, our nephew was due in September so we didn't want to steal the show from him. I went to my first doctor's appointment in August and had my first ultrasound to see if there was actually a tiny embryo in there. There was!

Here is a picture of our tiny pea in a pod:

The months of August and September were the most trying of the pregnancy. I had always had a problem with motion sickness but had not had serious symptoms since I was a child. Now, the motion sickness came back in full force. I had to travel an hour to and from work and was on the side of the road a lot! The second trimester was much better, and I understood why they call that the "feel good" trimester. On October 24, 2006, we had our second ultrasound and found out we were having a BOY! We were so excited, and we already knew his name...James Evan after his daddy, grandfather, and great-grandfather. We have since discovered that Evan has a distant direct-ancestor named Evan who was born in 1692.  His Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Grandpa Evan with the same surname too!

Here are some pictures of our little miracle:

Look at that adorable face! Looks like an alien!

It's a foot! And something else sticking up there between his legs!

What a sweet little hand!

The last trimester was very busy with all the preparations to make. I was beginning to feel like I was going to pop and had a lot of heart burn and trouble sleeping at night. We decided that we wanted one more sneak peek of our little man before he arrived so we scheduled a 3D/4D ultrasound session. We got to see our baby's features like Daddy's ears and nose, see that he had a lot of hair, and see him move and play with his cord. He was so cute!

Here are some pictures of our last ultrasound session:

We think he was sucking his thumb here. He is a thumb-sucker! Check out how he could touch his toes to his head!

So sweet. Look at that beautiful hairline! He was resting his head against his hand.

See his foot! It was touching his head!

  "I've got big muscles!"
