Buying our first home!

In 2005, we found a cute little house that was still under construction and decided this may be our opportunity to become homeowners. We made our offer and crossed our fingers! The builders/sellers FINALLY came back and accepted our offer! We had already gotten pre-approval from our bank so we were well on our way to becoming homeowners. We had to wait to close until the house was completed so we gave them two months and scheduled the closing for the end of June 2005. This would be the perfect 2 year anniversary present for us both! Finally, the BIG day arrived...WE CLOSED! We were so excited and immediately went over to the house to celebrate...and PAINT! We had chosen all of the paint colors already. I, of course, had to have a bright yellow kitchen, and we chose a soothing neutral for our living room and hallway. I did get to paint our guest bathroom a lovely light blue that closely resembled TARHEEL BLUE! Eddie thinks that is a sin or something! Anyway, we spent the whole weekend moving in, setting up and making improvements to our new home which we considered necessary! We owe a very BIG thank you to Eddie's mother and friend James for helping us with all of this hard work! It was a very hot weekend, and Eddie and James built a shed for us! Eddie also added shelves in closets, changed lighting fixtures (our builders got out very cheap on the fixtures), and added new screen doors on the front and back doors. When all was complete, we had a very cozy little home.

Over the next year, we worked on our little home and landscaped our cute little yard. We added azalea bushes, a dogwood tree, two Live Oak trees that will one day provide a nice shady backyard for some lucky family, and improved the lawn. Eddie and I also finally purchased some furniture of our very own for our new living room and dining area.

My parents had gifted us this birdhouse as a housewarming gift, and during the Spring and Summer, we enjoyed watching the birds from our dining room window.  We had a good size lot with lots of open space surrounding us. 

Years after we moved away, the house looked like this.  Our dogwood tree and azaleas had really grown as well as two live oaks we had planted in the backyard that had grown from grass stage to over 10 feet tall. 

About Hertford

The town of Hertford is a small town on the Albemarle Sound and Perquimans River in northeastern North Carolina. It is filled with many charming benefits like a beautiful waterfront park with a public access boatramp where we enjoyed sitting on the sheltered pier and watching the ducks swimming by. Spend a day dreaming about the "good ol' days" as you walk down Main Street and stop at the corner drug store for an ice cream cone or an ice cold coca-cola. Shop in one of the quaint antique shops or step into the virtual age in a little internet cafe. Enjoy the best pizza in the world either delivered to the comforts of your own home or visit a great pizzeria just down the street. Get great seafood, barbeque or fried chicken at "Captain Bob's". Drive 10 minutes down Highway 17 for all the conveniences of the city, including great local restaurants like "Cypress Creek" (scrumptious food in a great atmosphere), "The City Wine Cellar", Tres Amigos (the best Mexican food in the world), and many more. Drive another 40 minutes to get to the large cities of Chesapeake, Norfolk, and Virginia Beach, Virginia. Drive about 40 minutes in the opposite direction to reach the beautiful northern Outer Banks. Enjoy a day on the beautiful beaches or enjoy sight-seeing at Kitty Hawk's Wright Brothers Memorial, Historic Manteo, and the towns of Nags Head, Southern Shores, Duck, and Corolla. Drive further south to see the magnificent Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.
