Remembering our beginning!

As our first blog entry, I want to explain a little about how we became a family! In 2000, Eddie was a junior at N.C. State University, and Sherry was a freshman at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC. A mutual friend introduced them one night as she and Sherry were bored and decided to find Eddie at his favorite hangout, a small college bar. Sherry was too busy flirting with all the other guys to notice how special Eddie was at this time, but luckily, she got to see him more after this night. After only a few weeks, she was hooked! They dated throughout college.

Eddie graduated in 2001 with a degree in Forest Management and went to work for the North Carolina Forest Service in Elizabeth City, NC. He saved his money and was able to buy Sherry a beautiful diamond ring in 2002! He first asked her parents for their blessing, and then he took Sherry to a romantic Valentine's dinner. Before dinner, he suggested that they each read each other's cards to each other and then he gave Sherry a small wrapped box. When she opened it, there was a small silver charm with the monogram "SRS" on it (that would be Sherry's monogram after they were married). He told her to turn the charm over and on the back was inscribed "Will you marry me?" When she looked up, she saw Eddie beside her on his knee with the ring (exactly like they had designed together). She was so surprised that she couldn't say anything at first so she kissed him, and he said, "I guess that is a yes?" She said, "Of course it is, you aren't getting away from me that easily!"

Eddie and Sherry planned to marry after Sherry graduated from college. She planned their wedding during her very busy senior year. She graduated in May 2003, and the wedding was planned for June 21, 2003 (the first day of Summer). Their wedding day was a perfect summer day, and everything went as smoothly as planned....well, almost! Sherry did forget to pick up the wedding programs and had to send her brother for them at the last minute, and Eddie actually forgot to pick up his best man's tux so they were scrambling all over town to find a tuxedo rental place that could supply a matching tuxedo for his very tall, skinny best man! Of course, he did not tell me any of this until the festivities were all over!
